Tonight is one of those nights where I can post to both blogs and report the same matter. Charades at Yoshi's was more fun that one would expect, Al Gore was actually funny on SNL, the language house parties never change (or at least since my sophomore year), and weird off campus parties on top of O'Brien's are probably left unattended - even if you do get to watch Dan Shea drink out of a bottle of "Carlo Rossa" and fend for your life standing on a fire escape over Otter Creek watching other people smoke marlboro reds.

is that a little blog-uendo, Yosh?
So this blog can actually serve it's purpose, here are some important dates to keep in mind for Jterm:
Dartmouth, Jan 17th & 18th
This is always a fun tournament and only 2 hours away, it's great for people who haven't tried debate before or those that are itching to get back in the groove after a lazy winter break. Highlights from past Dartmouth tournaments include the "Ode to Animal House" affair, Mardi Gras themed party - complete with beads and plenty of sketchy ways to earn them, the infamous slippery steps incident, and of course the opportunity to stop for snacks six times in less than 100 miles. Okay, it sounds a lot like any old tournament, but it's always fun and for the most part, the Dartmouth kids are a lot like us and it's fun to be around like-minded individuals.
McGill, Jan 24th & 25th
Molson Brewery and legal underage drinking - need I say more? Well, Montreal is a great city and it's the best way to see it on someone else's dime. It's colder than hell, so bundle up, but this is not to be missed. We're pre-registering 6 teams so express your interest early once we return from Xmas break. Also, Canadians are just better people than the dregs of the earth that swarm to APDA. So if you go on debate trips to see good debate, this is a good choice. If you go on debate trips for other reasons, McGill has that too - EVERYONE WINS!!
The North American Parliamentary Debate Championships, Hopkins, Jan 31 - Feb 2
Since this trip requires airfare, it is a "limited attendance" tournament. Anyone who would like to be considered for attendance, should be prepared to committ to the trip at the beginning of jterm. The registration fees are a little pricey because of all of the hotel / food accomodations necessary, so the team will make a decision about how many people to send once we know the interest level, final costs, state of the budget. Just a general reminder, Feb graduation is Feb 1st, so anyone attending this trip will miss quite possibly the best farewell party ever held at Middlebury, my epic going away extravaganza. That said, I still want Midd debate to represent' at Hopkins, your choice. Hopkins promises 2 ice luges, hell, I promise 3 at my party.
Jterm holds much more for the Midd debaters - case workshops, plenty of practice debates, and a inter-commons on-campus debate is in the works courtesy of Mr. Michael "FB" Cooper. With any luck, we'll be able to do some team bonding too... If you have ideas of things you'd like to see happen, voice them. We'll need help recruiting new febs and drawing in some first years who didn't get on the bandwagon this fall.
Okay, back to my urban planning... until later this evening, my darlings...

I'll try anything once...
Testing, testing... calling all members of the "Middlebury Debate Society" and other curiously invested parties... advance apologies if you got three invitations to write here. Sorry, this whole administrator thing is new to me. Let me know if you have a homepage and I'll link it to the left. Basically, we can use this space to talk about new cases, our daily drama, put our oral history down in immortal form, list travel plans... it's the answer to any problem you ever had, well, that and gin will solve any problems mounting on your brow.
